Midland Inn sits comfortably in Murphysboro as a longtime bar & grill staple, blending familiar Southern-inspired fare with a laid-back, no-frills atmosphere. This is the kind of spot where folks gather for solid, hearty meals and big, friendly gatherings rather than polished presentations. The vibe is casual and welcoming, with an especially relaxed feel that makes it a good choice for unwinding after work or catching up with friends over drinks and filling plates.

The menu leans heavily into classic American bar and grill offerings with a Southern twist — ribs, catfish dishes, and steaks like prime rib, ribeye, and filet mignon anchor the selection. On any given weekend, the hand-cut prime rib or a ribeye grilled to order are popular picks, often enjoyed alongside comforting sides such as baked potatoes, salads, and fried green beans. For starters, sharing a plate of fajita nachos or quesadillas works well to kick off the meal.

Midland Inn also has well-regarded margaritas, including a classic jumbo-sized version and a fruity mango option that pairs well with the menu’s rich, savory flavors. The atmosphere inside carries the weight of years in the community, with a somewhat worn-in and genuine bar setting where locals tend to feel at ease. Outdoor porch seating provides a spot to enjoy a meal on warmer days, capturing that small-town feel.

This place suits groups large and small; one local noted how efficiently a single server managed a party of 20, which speaks to the friendly and attentive team behind the bar. Whether you’re coming in for the massive catfish dinners praised by regulars or a casual burger and beer combo, Midland Inn delivers a reliably down-to-earth dining experience.

Best visits happen in the early evening or weekends when the dinner specials like filet mignon or the roasted prime rib are on offer. Expect a busy but unpretentious setting, where the focus is on filling plates and good company rather than fancy decor. If you’re after a straightforward bar & grill with a loyal local clientele and solid Southern comfort food in Murphysboro, Midland Inn stands as an easygoing option worth considering.

The food was good and the service was great. We went in with a group of 20 people and one girl took all our orders. She had some help serving and everything came out right, hot and served at the same time.

I had their beef brisket dinner, and it was tender and juicy. The baked beans were delicious, and the fries were standard. The atmosphere was casual and very relaxing and I believe it's a great place to just go with friends and have a meal or have a drink.

Found this by accident. Reasonable drinks and food. Feels like a bar and restaurant that's been there a while. Nothing brand new or fancy but people were very friendly. My husband would definitely go back for their wings. I had gumbo and sandwich and they were yummy.

I had a burrito; lots of rice and beans; filled a big plate. It was delicious! My friend had Italian beef and it was also delicious. Service was good and it was busy. We ate on the porch. Overall, a really good experience. So much food!

Omg you must go here. It is very well known in Jackson County. Service food and atmosphere are fantastic. Lots of food items to pick from. Catfish dinners are beyond amazing. Their margaritas are outstanding. Highly recommend.

Great selection. Great servers. 1st time here and we will be back. Prices in specials are a good deal. 8 oz filet has a great smoky flavor and melts in your mouth. Pulled pork sandwich was very tender and plentiful!
